It is hard to believe that the 2009-2010 school year is now a memory. This was my first year as Superintendent in Allegany County, and I would like to reflect on some of the highlights of the year. Much of the work this year was done to plan and prepare for next year and beyond. As we continue to fulfill the mission of the Board of Education to “ensure that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes which enable them to be caring human beings and productive members of a democratic society”, we have worked to increase the academic rigor of our program for all students. The high school program for next year includes more Advanced Placement and dual enrollment/early college course offerings. Students responded. The 2010-2011student course enrollments for advanced level courses were up over 12%, and we had to order more texts and instructional materials to accommodate their requests.
