40 Parents and Children attend Family Night 2010 on February 23rd!

Parents and children enjoyed an evening of education and fun this evening! Workshops included "MSA Test Success," "Increasing your Child's Vocabulary," "Choices and Consequences," and "Eating Healthy on a Budget." Children enjoyed activities in the gym with FSU Physical Education students.  One lucky family won a $50 Wal Mart card, donated by LaVale Wal Mart and all who attended enjoyed pizza from Fat Boys Pizza Shack of Frostburg.

Parents listen to Dr. Ornstein present information on how to help your child increase his/her vocabulary.

Beall Elementary Assists Western MD Food Bank

Third Grade AEP students organized a food drive for the Western Maryland Food  Bank. It was held during the week of December 14th-18th. The total amount of food collected from students at the school was 1,065 pounds! Students who brought in food items had the opportunity to participate in the theme for the day. For example, if you brought in a breakfast food item for the drive, you could participate in "Pajama Day." The AEP students also toured the facilities of the Western MD Food Bank and learned about operational procedures.

Families and teachers gather during Math Night to do "make and take"activites to reinforce math concepts.

MSA Preparation- Grades 3-5

As MSA time approaches for students in grades 3-5, the following are some tips for parents to assist with your child’s success. More Parent Tips about the MSA can be found at  http://www.marylandpublicschools.org/MSDE/testing/msa/

Do's and Don't's during Testing

  • Don't be too anxious about a child's test scores. If you put too much emphasis on test scores, this can upset a child.
  • Do encourage children. Praise them for the things they do well. If they feel good about themselves, they will do their best. Children who are afraid of failing are more likely to become anxious when taking tests and more likely to make mistakes.
  • Don't judge a child on the basis of a single test score. Test scores are not perfect measures of what a child can do. There are many other things that might influence a test score. For example, a child can be affected by the way he or she is feeling, the setting in the classroom, and the attitude of the teacher. Remember, also, that one test is simply one test.
  • Meet with your child's teacher as often as possible to discuss his/her progress. Ask the teacher to suggest activities for you and your child to do at home to help prepare for tests and improve your child's understanding of schoolwork. Parents and teachers should work together to benefit students.
  • Make sure your child attends school regularly. Remember, tests do reflect children's overall achievement. The more effort and energy a child puts into learning, the more likely he/she will do well on tests.
  • Provide a quiet, comfortable place for studying at home.
  • Make sure that your child is well rested on school days and especially the day of a test. Children who are tired are less able to pay attention in class or to handle the demands of a test.
  • Give your child a well rounded diet. A healthy body leads to a healthy, active mind.

Tile I Schoolwide School Improvement Plan

The 2009-2010 School Improvement Plan is now available on the web.  The plan can be accessed by visiting http://www.acps.allconet.org/assets/uploads/file/BE%20SIP.pdf.  Parents are welcome to review and provide written comments on this plan at anytime throughout the school-year.  A copy of the plan is also available in the school office for review and comment as well.  We value your input in our continuing School Improvement efforts!

Title I Tips:

Parent Involvement Plan

Parents are invited to help plan activities for all parents at our school.  The activities are based on our Title I Schoolwide Plan.  We hope that you will come to these activities that are held during the year.  We would also like you to help us plan these activities so that they are enjoyable and interesting to you.  These activities support Joyce Epstein's six components of parent involvement: parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision-making, and collaborating with the community.

This plan is related to the Allegany County Public Schools' Parent Involvement Policy which values your participation in your child's education.  Parents are directly involved in the development of the plan.  The parent involvement plan is posted at the school and is distributed annually to parents.  Parents are asked to review the plan and provide feedback at the school.

For more information in regards to our Title I program, please refer to our school handbook.  The link is provided on the left side of our webpage under the "Main Menu" section.
