Music

The music program in the Allegany County Public Schools provides a variety of classes and experiences for students. All students in grades K-8 participate in general music. Grades 2, 4, 6, and 8 are evaluated by means of a countywide assessment aligned with the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum for Fine Arts.

Choral and instrumental music (band and orchestra) experiences are available as extra-curricular classes. Students can elect to begin an instrumental music (band and orchestra) experience beginning in grade 4 and continuing through grade 12. Choral programs are available beginning in grade 6 and continuing through grade 12.

A variety of elective music classes are available in the high school and provide students who are not members of performing organizations the opportunity to earn a fine arts credit.
